Over 13 K tourists visit Gangotri National Park so far this season

Informing this, the deputy director of Gangotri National Park, Harish Negi said that treks like Gaumukh-Tapovan, Kedartal, Rudragaira, Sundarbans, Nandanvan, Vasukital, Nelang Valley, Gartang Gali and Kalindi Pass remain major attractions for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Among these, the Gangotri-Gaumukh-Tapovan trek, Gartang Gali and Nelang Valley remain the top choices for tourists, he added.

He further said that in the current season, 3,431 tourists have visited the Gaumukh-Tapovan route, while 4,663 have visited the Gartang Gali. A large number of tourists are also arriving on the Nelang Valley motorway. Furthermore, the high Himalayan treks such as Kedar Tal, Rudragaira, Sundarban, Nandanvan and Vasukital are attracting adventure enthusiasts.

A total of 13,650 tourists have visited Gangotri National Park so far in the current tourist season 2026-27, resulting in the Forest department having received revenue to the tune of Rs 38, 15,400. Notably,
the natural beauty and adventure tourism activities of Gangotri National Park, nestled in the Himalayas, attract tourists from India and abroad every year.  

Importantly, Gangotri National Park is also renowned worldwide for its rare wildlife. It is home to some rare animals such as Himalayan Bharal, Musk Deer, Himalayan Brown Bear, Black Bear, leopard and the State bird Monal. Sightings of these animals in their natural surroundings remain a special attraction for tourists.

Negi stated that along with increasing tourism activities, biodiversity conservation is also being given top priority. “The promotion of eco-tourism is providing new employment opportunities for local youth, porters, hoteliers and those involved in the tourism business. Gangotri National Park will further strengthen its unique identity as one of Uttarakhand’s leading nature and adventure tourism destinations in the future,” he added.
