Pauri police have arrested an ambulance driver and seized 90 kilogrammes of ganja worth around Rs 45 lakh during a checking drive in Srinagar on Sunday. The accused allegedly used an ambulance to transport the contraband instead of carrying patients, police said.

As per the information, the action was taken near Awas Vikas Ground in Srinagar when police stopped an ambulance during vehicle checking. Police searched the vehicle after becoming suspicious and found nine sacks containing 90 kilogrammes of cannabis.

Police arrested the driver, Ravindra Singh Bisht (45) a resident of Chauras in Tehri district, and seized the ambulance. A case was registered against him under Sections 8/20/60 of the Nacrotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

During questioning, the accused reportedly told police that he had brought the cannabis from Rudraprayag to Srinagar with another associate, police said. He allegedly planned to sell it in Srinagar at a higher price after buying it at a lower price in Rudraprayag. Police said that the accused had also been involved in drug trafficking earlier. The police are now trying to identify other people linked to the supply chain.
