Fake railway job scam busted in Doon, accused arrested

The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a man from Dehradun on Thursday on the charge of cheating two young women on the pretext of providing them railway jobs. The accused had allegedly given fake appointment letters for the post of senior clerk and also made the women attend fake training sessions at Dehradun railway station for three months.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Ahmad, a resident of Rampur Maniharan in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, said police and added that he had posed as an engineer in the Railway Carriage and Wagon (C&W) department. He had also allegedly shown fake Northern Railway identity cards to gain the trust of his victims.
Police said that the women deceived are Anamika and Ishrat. He had allegedly demanded Rs five lakh from each woman for the job. Out of this amount, he had already taken Rs one lakh from each as per the complaint.
From January to March 2026, the accused regularly called both women to Dehradun railway station in the name of training. He made them sit for hours in the AC waiting hall. He also took them to the engine shed and coach shed, pretending to teach them railway work.
Things came to a head when the accused told Anamika that her joining date was May 6 and called her to the station. Once she arrived, he disappeared and stopped answering calls. Anamika then spoke to railway officials present at the station and showed them her documents. The officials informed her that the joining letter, ID card and quarter allotment papers were all fake.
Thereafter, she filed a complaint at Dehradun GRP police station. Police registered a case of cheating and forgery and then arrested the accused.
