Political parties appoint 20,863 BLAs for SIR in Uttarakhand

The political parties have so far appointed 20,863 Booth Level Agents (BLA) in Uttarakhand under the ongoing drive of the Election Commission of India for the ensuing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the State.

Under the SIR, the political parties have to appoint BLA 1 ( one in every Vidhan Sabha) and BLA-2 ( one in every polling station). There are 11,733 polling stations in the State.

The chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed 10,551 BLAs while Congress has appointed 9,869 BLAs in the State. He said that CPIM has appointed 326 while BSP has appointed 117 BLAs in the State.
 Purushottam said that the role of BLAs will be important in the upcoming SIR of electoral rolls in the State. He said that BLAs will help in the process of purification of the electoral rolls in the State. The CEO said that he had requested the representatives of the recognised political parties to appoint 100 per cent BLAs in the State following which the major political parties had appointed the majority of the BLAs.
