Power tariffs to remain unchanged in Uttarakhand

In a relief to the lakhs of electricity consumers in the State, the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission has revoked the proposed increase of 18.86 per cent in tariff proposed by the power corporations of the State.
Informing about the new tariff plan, the officiating chairperson of the UERC, ML Prasad said on Tuesday that the commission has not made any changes in the fixed charges and demand charges and kept the cross subsidy under +/- 20 per cent across all consumer categories as prescribed by the national tariff policy.
The commission has decided to keep the existing tariff rates for domestic consumers. It has decided to reduce the tariff of single point bulk supply from existing Rs 7.50 to Rs 6.25 per KVAh.
To promote use of solar energy the UERC has decided to provide a rebate of 22.5 per cent to the consumers with more than 25 KW load from 9 AM to 5 PM power usage. The commission has also decided to reduce the continuous supply surcharge from existing 15 per cent to 7.5 per cent.
Before announcing new tariffs the UERC had held consultations with all stakeholders in public hearings.
