Following Union Home minister Amit Shah’s public address in Haridwar to mark four years of the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Defence minister Rajnath Singh is slated to address a public gathering in Haldwani on March 21. Singh’s visit is focused especially at the electorate and the Bharatiya Janata Party cadre in the Kumaon region. Stating this, the party’s State president and Rajya Sabha member also referred to the Vidhan Sabha budget session adjourned sine die recently, opining that while the Congress MLAs did not raise many public interest issues, the BJP MLAs raised various issues related to public interest in the house.

Interacting with the media at the party headquarters here on Saturday, Bhatt said that on the line of the large public gathering addressed by Home minister Amit Shah on Haridwar recently, Defence minister Rajnath Singh will also address a similar gathering at Haldwani in the Kumaon region on completion of four years of the Dhami government. “We will receive the guidance of the Raksha Mantri in the gathering on March 21. Considering the public enthusiasm regarding the government’s achievements, we are hoping that lakhs of people will attend the event in Haldwani,” he said.

Talking about the Vidhan Sabha session he said that it is a matter of happiness for all that a budget aimed at the welfare and prosperity of the State was passed after detailed discussion. The opposition should avoid making unnecessary statements because their irresponsible stance was witnessed even in this session by the people of the State, he said. “The BJP MLAs asked more questions because they are natural and responsible representatives of the public. They raised regional and public interest issues in the house while the Congress MLAs didn’t deem it important to raise questions related even to their voters. This clearly shows that the Congress is befert of issues and ideology,” Bhatt opined.

Responding to questions about the party membership, the BJP State chief said that new and old persons along with all types of social activists are welcome to join the party. The BJP membership campaign committee will consider cases where there are issues regarding joining the party, he said.
