The redeveloped Harrawala railway station in Dehradun was dedicated to the public by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of Amrit Bharat Station Yojana under which he inaugurated 75 railway stations on Friday. Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were also among those present at Harrawala on the occasion.
Thanking Modi and Union Railway minister Ashwani Vaishnaw on behalf of the State, Dhami said that the redevelopment of Harrawala railway station is a matter of pride for Uttarakhand. “Developed at a cost of about Rs 19 crore, this railway station reflects the natural beauty of the Doon valley and the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. The station has aspects ranging from traditional art to modern facilities to ensure a safe, convenient and comfortable journey for the traveller,” Dhami said.
Under the leadership of PM Modi, the Indian Railways is passing through a phase of unprecedented progress. The consistent rise in modernisation of the railway network, safety, speed and technical enhancement are taking the nation forward, he said.
“Under PM Modi’s guidance and the assistance of the Centre, the dream of the rail reaching the mountainous areas of Uttarakhand is nearing completion. More than 75 per cent of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway project has been completed. This project will lend speed to aspects including the social, economic and tourism development in the State.The Centre approved a record sum of Rs 4,769 crore for railway development in Uttarakhand this year. Work on projects worth more than Rs 39,491 crore is under progress in the State,” he said.
Dhami said that the redeveloped Harrawala railway station will become an important milestone in Uttarakhand’s development journey.
