Food safety training drive held for Char Dham pilgrims

Acting on the directions of the commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), Vinay Shankar Pandey, an awareness and training initiative was launched in Rudraprayag district. The goal was to sensitise Food Business Operators (FBOs) about the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and to ensure the availability of safe food for the Char Dham pilgrims as well as the general people. Officials set a target to train a total of 180 hotel and restaurant food business operators at the Rudraprayag headquarters, Agastyamuni and Sonprayag by the end of the current month.

Notably, the deputy commissioner of FDA, G C Kandwal inaugurated the training and awareness programme for 58 food business operators at the district headquarters on June 24. The training was conducted by the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) with the support of Nestlé India.

Subsequently, on Thursday, a training programme for 68 Food Business Operators was organised in Agastyamuni. During this session, Kandwal highlighted various food safety innovations and management techniques as part of the Eat Right India initiative.

The assistant commissioner, Manoj Semwal provided information regarding the latest amendments to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, while the executive officer of Nagar Panchayat, Agastyamuni, Nikita Bhatt stressed the importance of maintaining separate bins for dry and wet waste and encouraged traders to stay vigilant about cleanliness and hygiene.

The senior food safety officer, Dileep Kumar Jain and the president, Nagar Vyapar Mandal, Tribhuvan Singh Negi actively engaged in the programme and shared their suggestions and concerns.
