Dehradun police have been on alert mode ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha festival slated on May 28 to ensure that the celebrations are held peacefully across the district. On Monday, meetings were organised in all urban and rural police station areas with members of different communities, Community Liaison Group (CLG) members and peace committee members, police said.

During the meetings, police officials appealed to the people to celebrate the festival with mutual harmony and brotherhood. Citizens were also requested not to start any new traditions during the festival and to avoid sharing any unverified or misleading information on social media platforms.

The senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, Pramendra Dobal said that all social media platforms are being closely monitored to prevent circulation of rumours or messages that could disturb communal harmony. “Strict action will be taken against anyone found creating tension or disturbing peace in the district,” Dobal said.

The police also asked local residents and peace committee members to cooperate in maintaining law and order during the festival. “Members present in the meetings assured the police administration of their full support in maintaining peace and harmony in their respective areas during Eid-ul-Adha celebrations,” the SSP said.
