The Uttarakhand police headquarters has taken the incident at Romeo Lane Bar in Rajpur seriously and has ordered a detailed inquiry. The additional director general of police (Law and Order), V Murugesan has directed the inspector general of police (IG) Garhwal, Rajeev Swaroop, and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun, Pramendra Dobhal, to explain the sequence of events.
Notably, the incident took place late Saturday night. Around 12:30 am, the superintendent of police (SP) Pramod Kumar conducted a raid at the bar. During the operation, he was surprised to find an IG-level officer present at the bar.
The police headquarters has asked both the officers to submit a detailed and factual report within 24 hours, clearly explaining what had actually happened.
Uttarakhand police have been taking strict action under ‘Operation Prahar’ against pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants that remain open late at night. The crackdown started after the murder of a retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi (70), which had raised serious concerns about law and order.
Meanwhile, undeterred by the incident, police continued with their action against those found boozing and wandering late in the night. Several people were arrested on Sunday and Monday, police said.
