The Election Commission of India has appointed State level nodal officers from different departments to streamline and expedite the process of verification of documents submitted by the voters in response to the notices served by the commission under the ongoing process the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand. The decision to appoint the nodal officers was taken in a meeting of officers of the State administration and ECI at the State secretariat on Monday. The meeting was chaired by the chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand BVRC Purushottam.
The election commission has given a list of 11 documents which include certificates and identity cards issued by government, certificates of education, land ownership documents, family register and others which the voters can submit against the notices served to them.
In the meeting, the CEO said that verification of the documents submitted should be done in a timely manner.
The commission has appointed director Secondary Education and director Higher Education as nodal officers for verification of the class X and other educational qualification certificates. Similarly the director Health services has been appointed as nodal officers to verify the birth certificates while director Urban Development will be the nodal officer for verification of house allotment certificates.
The nodal department for verification of domicile and caste certificates would be the revenue council while the director Panchayati Raj will be the nodal officer for Family Register. The director ITDA will be the State level nodal officer for online services of different government departments.
In the meeting the CEO said that continuous monitoring of the second phase of the SIR should be done at the State level by making continuous coordination with the nodal officers deputed in the districts.
He said that the objective of the entire exercise is to ensure timely verification of the documents submitted by the voters.
Notably, following detection of different types of anomalies, the ECI has issued notices to more than 19 lakh voters in the State.
The meeting was attended by the additional chief electoral officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande, deputy chief electoral officer Kishan Singh Negi and the senior officers of Higher Education, Secondary Education, Urban Development, Health, Panchayati Raj, Revenue and ITDA.
