The Special Task Force (STF) seized 244.06 grammes of MDMA late on Monday night, described by the agency as Uttarakhand’s biggest MDMA recovery so far this year. Three men from Rudrapur were arrested in a joint operation by the STF’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and Tanakpur police. The seized drug has been estimated to be worth around Rs 25 lakh in the international illegal market, STF said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Imran, Ashish and Abhishek, all residents of Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district. A motorcycle was also seized from them.

The STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the STF Kumaon unit developed technical and manual intelligence before receiving specific information about the drug trafficking. Acting on the information, the STF team and Tanakpur police launched a joint operation and arrested the three accused late on Monday night. The MDMA was recovered from their possession during the operation.

The STF is now investigating the accused’s forward and backward links to identify where the drug came from and who it was meant for. Officials are also trying to uncover other people connected to the alleged trafficking network.
