State Govt trying to silence folk singer’s voice: Congress

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Congress has alleged that the State government has attacked the democratic system and freedom of expression by detaining folk singer Pawan Semwal from his residence in middle of the night because he had recently launched a song highlighting prevailing corruption, unemployment, crime against women and mining and liquor mafia during the tenure of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Uttarakhand.

The president of the Social Media wing of Uttarakhand Congress, Vikas Negi said that Semwal has raised the voice and plight of people of the State through his song and his arrest is unfortunate. He said that the dictatorial attitude of the State government will not be tolerated by the people. Negi added that the Uttarakhand Congress is standing firmly with Semwal and will not tolerate any infringement on freedom of expression. He demanded that the case against Semwal should be dropped immediately.
