The Swami Ramtirth Campus of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal (Central) University has received official approval to offer the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the 2026-2027 session. This course is already being offered at the university’s Birla Campus. With this green light from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), students in the region will now directly benefit from a world-class and modern curriculum to become teachers.
Launched under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), this 4-year integrated course (BA-B.Ed, B.Sc-B.Ed) can be completed immediately after 12th grade. While previously it took five years to complete a bachelor’s degree and then a B.Ed, this programme will directly save students a valuable year, the university sources said and added that the most significant feature of this new curriculum is its comprehensiveness.
It deeply incorporates modern educational technology as well as the Indian knowledge tradition, ensuring aspiring teachers connect deeply with their roots, the campus director Prof A A Boudaa said. “The course’s design goes beyond simply imparting bookish knowledge; it emphasises developing the qualities of an ideal teacher within students such as excellent communication skills, clarity of phonetics and language, an understanding of student psychology and a dedication to their holistic development,” he said.
Expressing happiness at this significant achievement, he said: “Receiving ITEP accreditation is a matter of pride for our institute. This programme will not only make our future teachers globally competitive but will also provide them with a strong foundation.”
The enrollment for this programme is expected to begin soon, starting in the upcoming semester. Detailed admission information and guidelines will be made available soon on the official website and through newspapers, the university sources said.
