PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi

The district magistrate Prashant Arya visited Harsil on Wednesday to assess the situation arising from the rising level of Bhagirathi river in the border area of Harsil under Bhatwari tehsil of the district and conducted a field inspection. He instructed the officials concerned to expedite protective work while adhering to safety standards.

The DM inspected the ongoing CC block and wirecrete protective works near Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and directed the executing agency to increase the number of workers at the construction site and speed up the work. “The residential buildings and land near the river in Harsil must be completely protected during the monsoon,” he ordered.

Considering the possibility of the direction of the river’s flow being affected due to a tree falling, the DM directed the Irrigation department to take immediate action to remove such trees.

He further directed officials to ensure that all departments coordinate and maintain constant monitoring of sensitive areas. He clarified that public safety is the district administration’s top priority, and all necessary protective and relief work is being carried out on a war footing to prevent river erosion and mitigate potential risks.
