Temperatures remain below normal with more rain forecast in State

Dehradun and various other parts of the State witnessed below normal temperatures again on Friday with light to moderate rain being reported in different areas. The weather is likely to be similar today. The State Meteorological Centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms/snowfall (at altitudes of 4,200 metres and above) are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Almora, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Saturday while dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts. A yellow warning has also been issued regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 34 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to the centre on Friday, during the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures remained appreciably below normal in plains and appreciably below normal to markedly below normal in the mountainous regions of the State. However, the maximum temperatures are likely to rise by two to four degrees Celsius during the next two to three days in the State.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Friday were 32.3 degrees Celsius and 16.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 32.4 degrees Celsius and 16.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22 degrees Celsius and 6.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21.9 degrees Celsius and 7.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
