In preparation for the upcoming Kanwad Yatra, the joint team of police and the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) carried out an operation against temporary encroachments along the Yatra route on Thursday. The teams issued challans to 25 individuals and collected a fine of Rs 12,500 under the Police Act.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the operation targeted encroachments between Natraj Chowk and Shyampur Railway crossing. The action aimed to address traffic disruptions caused by shopkeepers placing goods on roadsides and vendors operating handcarts in public spaces. The team removed illegal encroachments from over 32 locations during the operation, he said.
Singh said that encroachers were warned against repeating such actions stating that legal proceedings will be taken against them if violations continued. The operation will continue on the route as part of the administration’s preparations to ensure an obstruction-free route for Kanwad Yatra, he added.
