UPES Energy Summit 2025 charts the course towards a decarbonised future

The fourth edition of the UPES Energy Summitcommenced on Tuesday at UPES, Dehradun campus, launching a two-day programme that hosts the International Conference on Sustainable and Affordable Energy (ICSAE 2025) in hybrid mode, sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).
Curated by the UPES Energy Clustersince 2022, the summit has become a leading arena for experts, researchers, policymakers and innovators to confront pressing energy issues and advance workable, sustainable solutions, senior officials of the university said. With energy security standing second only to food securityin shaping the future of nations, the summit has evolved into a premier platformfor energy experts, researchers, policymakers and innovators to deliberate on global energy challenges and explore sustainable pathways forward, they further said.
Across the inaugural sessions, delegates set the agenda for evidence-led action on reliability, affordability and decarbonisation, with nearly 200 research papers presented across the conference, covering energy generation, storage, transportation and utilisation.
The deputy director-general, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Abu Dhabi, UAE, Gauri Singh was present as the chief guest.
Underscoring the summit’s commitment to nurturing future talent, more than 100 school students are participating through model and poster presentations on Sustainable and Affordable Energy, engaging directly with scientists, industry leaders and policymakers to translate ideas into impact.
Commenting on the opening day, the vice-chancellor, UPES, Ram Sharmasaid that with energy security being a defining pillar of India’s progress in this decisive decade, UPES was bringingresearch, policy, and industry into the same room so young people can learn directly from practitioners and shape what comes next. “We want to support responsible growth that strikes the right balance between infrastructural development and the environment,” he added.
With Uttarakhand’s abundant sunshine and rich forest biomass providing distinctive regional advantages, Energy Summit 2025 is spotlighting responsible, locally-anchored solutions that can strengthen national energy security, while ensuring affordability and environmental balance for generations to come, the organisers remarked.
