Two men arrested with Rs six lakh worth of charas intended for Kanwad Yatra supply

Police arrested two men with 3.08 kilogrammes of illegal charas worth around Rs six lakh, which they were reportedly planning to supply in Rishikesh and Haridwar during the ongoing Kanwad Yatra.

The arrests were made during a joint checking operation by the Kotdwar Police and CIU team which is being carried out ahead of the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, the Pauri senior superintendent of police Lokeshwar Singh said. He informed that the two accused, Harish from Najibabad in Uttar Pradesh and Sanjeev Kumar Chettri alias Chhotu from Kotdwar’s Najibabad Road, were intercepted while riding motorcycles.

On checking, police recovered 530 grammes of charas from Harish and 2.550 kilogrammes from Chhetri. During interrogation, both admitted that they were transporting the contraband to Haridwar and Rishikesh to supply during the Kanwad Yatra.

The SSP said that a case has been registered against them under FIR number 178/2025, sections 8/20/60 of the NDPS Act. Chettri was previously booked in 2023 under similar charges in FIR 258/2023. Both accused are currently in custody and further investigation is underway, Singh added.
