The Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh (UBS) on Tuesday held a protest and marched towards the secretariat here demanding timely recruitment to government jobs. However, the police stopped them at the barricades on Subhash Road before they could reach the secretariat. The protesters then sat on the road and raised slogans in support of their demands.
The protesters demanded that the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) release the recruitment notification for assistant engineer (AE) and junior engineer (JE) posts at the earliest. They also asked the government to restart pending recruitment processes, issue a notification for 1,500 Uttarakhand police vacancies and begin the recruitment process for 400 women police constable posts.
State president of the UBS, Ram Kandwal alleged that both the Central and State governments have failed to fulfill their promises of providing government jobs. He said the government had promised to fill 60,000 vacancies but has not done so yet.
He also claimed that local youth are struggling for jobs while candidates from other states are getting employment. The association also condemned the reported lathi-charge on protesting youth in Delhi a day earlier.
