To register its protest on rising crime, deteriorating law and order situation in the State and other issues, the Uttarakhand Congress organised a protest march to the Raj Bhawan (Lok Bhawan) on Monday. On the call given by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal and other senior leaders of the party, a large number of workers assembled at the Parade Ground in Dehradun on Monday morning. Holding placards and banners, the workers and leaders then started a march towards the residence of the governor. The slogan shouting workers of the party were stopped by the police near Hathibarkala.
Some of the Congress leaders and many workers climbed the barricades and tried to push their way through the police cordon which resulted in minor scuffle between the party workers and the police. Large number of party leaders and workers then courted arrest and were taken to the police lines where they were released in the evening. The rally was attended by the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress Kumari Selja, former chief minister Harish Rawat, the chairperson of the campaign committee Pritam Singh, head of the election management committee Harak Singh Rawat, leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, former PCC president Karan Mahara, AICC secretary Qazi Nizamuddin, all the MLAs of the party, former cabinet ministers, former MPs, head of the all the frontal organisations, members of the PCC and party functionaries.
Addressing the party workers, the PCC president Godiyal said that the people of Uttarakhand have got fed up with the anti-people policies of corrupt BJP and have made up their mind to throw it out of power in 2027. After the rally Godiyal, Pritam Singh and Yashpal Arya thanked the party workers for the success of the protest march to Raj Bhawan.
