Vijay Diwas is observed every year on December 16 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. Under the leadership of general SFHJ Manekshaw, the Indian army achieved a decisive victory, leading to the liberation of East Pakistan and the formation of Bangladesh.
Highlighting the professionalism of the armed forces, the governor said their discipline, training and commitment continue to inspire the nation. He stressed that caring for the families of martyrs and war-injured soldiers is a shared responsibility of society and the nation.
Singh also spoke about India’s progress in defence modernisation and new technologies. He said that Vijay Diwas is not only a day to remember past victories but also a time to renew the resolve to stay prepared for future challenges.
