Uttarakhand to launch cooperative based taxi service

The Cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that a cooperative based taxi service will be launched in the State soon. The Union Home and Cooperation minister Amit Shah officially launched the cooperative based taxi service ‘ Bharat Taxi’ service in New Delhi on Thursday. Rawat said that the initiative of Uttarakhand government is inspired by the Bharat Taxi service.
He said that Uttarakhand is emerging as a hub of tourism, pilgrimage and wedding destination. Large number of pilgrims and tourists are visiting the State attracted by its natural beauty, temples and peaceful environment. The State has a vast potential for cooperative service. Rawat said that every year more than 30 lakh pilgrims visit Uttarakhand for Char Dham Yatra and last year alone more than four crore tourists and pilgrims visited the State. He said that the cooperative based taxi service will prove to be very important for employment generation and the economy of the State.
Rawat said that the proposed taxi service will operate in the state while keeping the ownership, safety, honour and social security of drivers at centre. He said that the officers have been directed to start the service and soon its roadmap will be released. The minister said that the drivers driving the two wheeler, three wheelers and four wheelers will be associated with the scheme and it will benefit the local youngsters in mountainous and rural areas. The minister added that the service will help in linking the increasing tourism, wedding destination and religious tourism activity with a safe, organised and self-reliant cooperative system.
