Wildlife experts concerned over vultures’ declining population

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Ramnagar

While addressing a workshop on declining vulture population, the director, Corbett Tiger Reserve, Saket Badola said that special attention must be given to vulture conservation in Corbett areas. During the event, WWF researchers revealed that five vultures had been tagged and then released between November 2023 and April 2025. These vultures had travelled from Corbett National Park to Rajaji National Park and eventually returned to the Almora forest range. Each vulture had covered nearly 3,000 km in a span of 90 days, the experts said, adding that the high-tension power lines pose a significant threat to their survival.

They further stated that nine different species of vultures have been recorded within Corbett National Park limits which is a positive sign. Also, they said in unison that as vultures help maintain environmental balance, their conservation is vitally important.

The workshop was attended by Park Warden Amit Gwasakoti, CTR officials, and WWF staff.
