In an effort to create a stress-free environment for patients and their attendants, the administration of Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has recently embarked on a project to enhance greenery through planting initiatives on the hospital grounds, according to principal medical superintendent Dr Manu Jain. He informed that the hospital administration is focusing on increasing green spaces to benefit those who visit the facility for treatment of various ailments. Recognising that patients and their companions often experience stress related to their health conditions, the administration believed that incorporating more greenery will help alleviate some of this stress for those who come to the hospital.
Jain stated that the hospital administration has planted approximately 110 plants within the hospital grounds. A variety of plants, including flowers, have been placed at the entrance and a small garden has been created near the hospital canteen. Additionally, a new herbal garden featuring medicinal plants has been established near the gynaecology emergency wing. He said that, in accordance with the protocol, the herbal plants have been chosen based under national quality assurance certification. This initiative also aims to raise awareness about the importance of medicinal plants among visitors, he added.
He stated that the doctors, nurses and other staff members have personally contributed to the initiative for planting at the hospital. He said that the current focus is on areas outside the hospital building, such as the courtyard near the entrance, but they plan to begin incorporating small pots inside the hospital soon.
Jain said that the primary goal of promoting greenery and conducting planting at the hospital is to create a stress-free environment for patients. This effort will not only supply fresh oxygen to both patients and their families but will also help mitigate pollution. The said initiative at the hospital is intended to create a positive atmosphere for visitors coming for treatment, he said.
