Woman’s son & brother nabbed for theft in her home

Doiwala police arrested two accused on Saturday in theft, who turned out to be the son and brother of the complainant. The accused have been identified as 37-year-old Amit Singh Negi and 18-year-old Chirag Bora. The duo had allegedly stolen cash and jewellery from the home to fuel their addictions.

According to police, a resident of Resham Majri in Doiwala area, Monica Goswami had gone on a pilgrimage to Badrinath Dham with her family. When the family returned home, they found that jewellery and cash kept inside an almirah had been stolen. Following her complaint on June 5, a case was registered at Doiwala police station.

During a checking operation in the Fatehpur Tanda area, police received information about the suspects and arrested Negi and Bora. During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime.

Police said that Negi, who is the complainant’s brother, is addicted to drugs, while Bora, the complainant’s son, is addicted to online gaming and gambling. To arrange money for their addictions, the two allegedly planned the theft together. Police investigation revealed that both the accused stayed back at home while other family members went on the Badrinath pilgrimage. During the night, they stole gold and silver jewellery and cash from the house. The cash was later spent on drugs and online gambling.

Police recovered the stolen jewellery and Rs 2,500 in cash from the accused. Officials said the duo was planning to sell the jewellery when they were arrested. Further investigation in the case is underway.
