The 10- member Special Investigation Team (SIT) recorded the statement of Uttarakhand cabinet minister Rekha Arya in a case registered against her husband, Girdhari Lal Sahu, as investigators examined allegations of assault, forged signatures and a suspected conspiracy to murder her.
The investigating officer and Sahaspur circle officer, Anuj Kumar had visited Arya’s official residence in Nehru Colony on Monday to record her statement. The SIT has also taken possession of an audio recording linked to the case to be sent to a forensic science laboratory for examination.
The SIT head, Jaya Baluni said that the team was also recording statements of people named during the investigation. “Investigators are trying to obtain original documents related to the case,” she added.
Notably, a SIT team had visited Bareilly and collected documents, but the papers received were photocopies. The team is now making efforts to obtain the original records, Baluni said.
The investigation includes allegations of forged signatures on company documents and concealing a previous marriage of Arya’s husband before his marriage to her.
Importantly, Arya had lodged the case against her husband at Cantt police station on October 15. The complaint alleges that Sahu assaulted her, hurled caste- based slurs and discussed a conspiracy to murder her during an audio recorded conversation with a woman.
The SIT would continue its investigation based on the statements and evidence collected so far, the investigators said and added that the allegations levelled are yet to be established.
