Govt approves threefold compensation for families affected by Lakhwar Vyasi and Tyuni Plasu hydropower projects

Lakhwar Vyasi and Tyuni Plasu hydropower project-affected families will now receive threefold compensation after the State government approved the Dehradun district administration’s proposal and issued an order.
The decision aligns the compensation package with that provided to families displaced by the Nainbagh Tehri project, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He stated that the move addresses long-standing demands of affected residents and will provide both justice and economic support.
He added that this step will accelerate rehabilitation efforts and ensure smoother implementation of hydropower projects. The compensation decision will benefit families from several villages, including Dhanpo, Lakhwar, Laksiyar, Khunna Alman, Ludhera, Khati, Dau, Uabhou and Saryana. These villages are directly impacted by the Lakhwar dam and Tyuni Plasu projects, he added.
The DM informed that the Lakhwar project involves the acquisition of over 45 hectares of land, with an ex-gratia amount of more than Rs 30 crore earmarked for distribution. So far, nearly Rs 18 crore has already been disbursed.
The Tyuni Plasu project will also acquire nearly six hectares of land, with compensation distribution to begin after final surveys and awards. He said that the Lakhwar project is one of Uttarakhand’s most important power and irrigation initiatives.
Once completed, it will generate 300 megawatts of electricity, benefiting six states- Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, he added.
