The four-day sports meet ‘Ojas’ concluded at Patanjali Ayurveda College here on Monday. Addressing the students, Acharya Balkrishna said that while the body is formed in the mother’s womb, thoughts are formed under the guidance of teachers.  “Now you are passing through a phase when you are being initiated by your teachers. The phase of self-study will come next,” he told the students.

He further said that   strength could not be developed without self-study. “You must study the curriculum designed for study. Along with that, continuous self-study is essential for achieving strength, proficiency, efficiency and supreme competence in knowledge. Moreover, what you are learning must reflect in your speech,” he said. He exhorted the students not to give in to laziness or carelessness while they were progressing.

Hailing sports, Acharya Balkrishna said that through participation in sports, they could imbibe discipline along with many other qualities needed for complete growth of personality.

Addressing the students, the acting chairman of the Indian Education Board, N P Singh said that competition does not mean rivalry. “Sports teach us to respect our opponents and this is also the fundamental principle of sportsmanship,” he added.
