Considering that people carry around more cash than usual to spend on shopping during festive season, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun, Daleep Singh Kunwar has directed all station in-charges to deploy police personnel in plain clothes as well in crowded places and main markets in their respective areas to prevent and control criminal activities.

The SSP said this in a virtual interaction on Thursday which was joined by all police station in-charges, traffic in-charges and other officials concerned. He also directed the officials to conduct regular checking of people arriving from other districts and states as their movement increases during the festive season that can potentially increase criminal activities in Dehradun as has been observed in the past too. He also asked the officials to coordinate with the food safety department to conduct checking of food supplies like dairy products and other food products which are supplied from other districts or states to ensure no adulterated product would enter the markets.

The demand of such products increases during the festive season which also increases the risk of the supply of adulterated products that can adversely affect the health of locals considering which coordination between the food safety department and the police is necessary to take action against guilty parties, added the SSP. He said that the police have recently received information about smuggling of adulterated and illegal liquor due to their high demand during the festive season and the officials concerned must take action against people involved in such activities. Besides this, he also directed the officials to take action against the traffic violations like overloading of vehicles, drunk driving, over speeding, tripling and riding a two-wheeler without a helmet under the Motor Vehicles Act. He has also ordered to make all the arrangements to tackle any fire related incidents across the district.
