UPES celebrates 20th convocation, confers 3,251 degrees

The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) celebrated its 20th convocation on Friday wherein a total of 3,251 students from six schools of the university were awarded degrees. The university also launched an ambitious alumni nurturing programme called ‘NEST’. The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh was the guest of honour along with the Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat.
Congratulating the students, the governor said, “The university’s academic excellence is evident from its industry aligned programmes and excellent placements of students. I am also happy to know that UPES is focusing towards addressing the needs of the 21st century learner and the future of higher education in India by implementing the National Education Policy 2020 at its campus.”
The vice chancellor Sunil Rai also presented the vice chancellor’s report and shared the journey and achievements of the university in the past one year. He said, “We are proud of the accomplishments of the graduating batch. We are confident that with their knowledge, skills, and values they will lead meaningful professional and personal lives. The university has had a great year, excelling in academics, research, innovation, entrepreneurship without losing sight of purpose which is the core of everything we do. Now as a truly future ready organisation, UPES aims to set up a presence into the Metaverse, becoming one of the first universities in the world to adopt and shape this interesting opportunity that technology has to offer.”
The degrees presented in the convocation included 34 PhD degrees, 551 post-graduate (regular) degrees, 566 post-graduate (CCE) degrees which comprised of MBA, MTech, MA, MSc, LLM and MDes, and 2,700 graduate degrees (regular) and 33 graduate (CCE) degrees in the domains of BTech, BCA, B.Sc, BBA, BA, BCom (Hons), BDes and various UG programmes of Law. The students were also felicitated with 11 gold medals, 65 silver medals, three instituted gold medals, eight silver plates for CCE Graduates and 14 certificates of appreciation at the convocation.
