An army personnel allegedly jumped into the Ganga river near Rishikesh late Tuesday night The officials informed that the victim Rahul Lakhera, a resident of Gairsain, Chamoli, was posted in Jammu and Kashmir. He was going to Chamoli from Rishikesh with his cousin in a car on Tuesday. The officials said that as per the statement of the cousin, Lakhera told him that he needed to urinate and got out of the car near the river at Kaudiyala in Rishikesh and jumped into it. The officials said that the police immediately called the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to conduct a search operation in the river after getting the complaint. However, the SDRF teams could not find the body in the dark due to lack of visibility. The officials said that the search was continued on Wednesday but the body was not found till late evening. The police said that they are analysing all statements and looking into the matter. The police would be able to determine the real cause of his death only after recovering the dead body, said the officials.
