Research imperative for developing products and solving public problems, says VC of GBPUAT

While presiding over the research advisory committee meeting at Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council Haldi, Pantnagar on Monday, the vice-chancellor of G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar Manmohan Singh Chauhan has exhorted the scientists to develop new products based on research work meant to solve the people’s problems.

During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was inked involving Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Government of India. As per the MoU, these institutes will work together to conserve and promote the precious medicinal and aromatic plants grown in the State.

Following the inaugural programme, Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council director Sanjay Kumar spoke of the proposed agenda of the institute for the coming time before the committee. The matters stressed during the meeting included the biodiversity conservation of the State, construction of biotech park, creation of entrepreneurship development, mutual coordination with industrial units, preservation of genetics of Badri cow, up-gradation of laboratories, formulation of biotechnology policy, startup and accurate selection of projects. While some of the participants attended the programme online others were physically present.
Among the eminent persons who attended the programme included former vice chancellor, Rajasthan Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Bikaner, Vishnu Sharma, director, DRDO-DIBER Haldwani, Devkanta Pahar Singh and CIMAP director Haldwani, Prabodh Kumar Trivedi.
