Rawat should stage protest fast against Congress’ anti-public decision: BJP

A day after senior Congress leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat staged a protest fast against alleged harassment of people in the mountainous areas in the name of removal of roadside encroachments, the Bharatiya Janata Party State spokesman Bipin Kainthola said on Sunday that Rawat should stage such a fast and repent for the “anti-public” decisions taken by the Congress government in the State. Kainthola questioned why Rawat and other Congress leaders had remained silent when on January 27, 2014 the Uttarakhand Roadside Land Control (Amendment) Act was passed. “When his party’s government took this anti-public decision, the dharna expert Rawat did neither stage any protest nor undertake any fast. Even after becoming the chief minister, he did not take any decision regarding this Act. He is now resorting to petty politics to gain cheap publicity,” said the BJP spokesman.

Kainthola also challenged the former chief minister to list the works done during his term for the welfare of the poor, law and order, and other public welfare works. He alleged that the people had seen the time under Rawat’s government when there was an atmosphere of fear and corruption in the State. “The mafia was fearless and shootings used to take place outside the jail while the then CM Harish Rawat used to remain busy with his lackeys. It is unfortunate that ignoring all such deeds, he is now indulging in political drama. He should apologise to the people of Uttarakhand if he has any morality left,” added Kainthola.
