The families of two Kanwadiyas who died after heavy iron girders fell on them near an under-construction highway flyover at Bahadrabad in Haridwar district have accused the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) of negligence. Based on their complaint, the Bahadrabad police have registered an FIR and started an investigation.
The complainants, Matru of Modinagar and Mahesh of Muradnagar, said that their sons, Krishna (18) and Akshit alias Tanuj (21) respectively, were returning after collecting holy Ganga water from Haridwar. On Saturday, they stopped to rest under the flyover near Badhedi Rajputan village when heavy iron girders placed on the under construction flyover suddenly fell on them. Both the pilgrims were seriously injured in the accident. The local police took them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
In their complaint, the family members alleged that the accident happened because of negligence of the NHAI. They claimed that heavy iron girders had been kept in an unsafe manner on the under construction flyover during the Kanwad Yatra, putting the lives of pilgrims at risk. They have demanded legal action against the officials responsible for the construction work. The Bahadrabad police station officer Amarjeet Singh said that a case has been registered on the basis of the complaint. He said the matter is being investigated and further action will be taken after the investigation is completed.
