At a time when major traffic violations are taking place especially due to the Kanwad Yatra, the Dehradun region Regional Transport Office (RTO) said that it will conduct a special enforcement drive after the conclusion of the Kanwad Yatra, targeting vehicles using fancy number plates. The drive will also focus on sellers who deal in such illegal number plates. A few days ago, a video of one such vehicle in Dehradun also went viral on social media after which the Transport department claimed that it had issued challan.
In response to the growing trend of fancy number plates, regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety), Dehradun region, Anita Chamola said that this is a clear violation of rules. She informed that since April 1, 2019, High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) have been made mandatory for every vehicle. Any person using fancy number plates will be booked for violation of rules. She further said that if someone buys a new vehicle, the dealer is required to provide legal HSRP to the vehicle owner. For old vehicles, owners can contact the companies empanelled for issuing legal HSRP.
At a time when Kanwadiyas from various States are blatantly violating various rules, Chamola informed that to curb the violation of rules and use of fancy number plates, the RTO will launch a special enforcement drive in the main areas of Dehradun region after the Kanwad Yatra. Teams will be deployed at key locations to conduct checks and take action. The drive will cover both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
She said that if any vehicle is found using fancy and illegal number plates, a challan will be issued. Apart from this, the drive will also target sellers who are selling fancy number plates for vehicles, and notices will be issued to them.
