The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has thanked chief secretary Radhu Raturi for facilitating the clearance of the State’s farmers’ payments that were due for the past two years from the brokers at Niranjanpur Mandi. The head of the BKU Somdutt Sharma informed that the union, along with farmers, had persistently been advocating for the settlement of these dues from the brokers for several months. Despite their various efforts such as protests and Mandi gate blockades, the brokers had not fulfilled their obligations. Recently, they met Raturi to express their concerns and urge for a prompt resolution. In response, Raturi promptly took action, leading discussions with the brokers, ultimately resulting in the clearance of the state farmers’ payments, he added.
In addition, he informed that the farmers are pleased with the clearance of their payments. However, a lingering issue the farmers face is the matter of brokers deducting a commission of six per cent at the time of payment, which is deemed illegal. Sharma further informed that they recently wrote a letter to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Raturi regarding this commission concern and urging for strict action against brokers seeking such commissions from the farmers. He stated that if the government does not take action in this regard, the union will resort to organising protests once more and will even approach the High Court due to the illegal commissions being charged by the farmers.
