Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was presented with the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee memorial award at a function in Mumbai on Sunday for implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand. The award was presented at a function held on Mukherjee’s death anniversary. Paying respects to the Jana Sangh founder, Dhami said that Mukherjee had dedicated his entire life to the unity and integrity of India. “The seed he planted in the form of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh is now the world’s largest political party in the form of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He always supported equality, unity and justice while giving the nation the mantra of one constitution, one Prime Minister and one flag. Through his thoughts and actions, he dedicated his entire life to a powerful and prosperous India,” Dhami said. The CM further said that the people of India are witnessing the dreams of Mukherjee being fulfilled under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Article 370 was abrogated from Kashmir under Modi. The Uttarakhand government also fulfilled the dream of Mukherjee by passing the UCC as per the constitution. “Uttarakhand has become the first Indian State to implement the UCC. In the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections, the people voted the BJP to form the government in the State for the second consecutive time. On assuming office, we first worked to fulfil our promise to the people and implement the UCC. The draft of the UCC was prepared after detailed deliberations with all stakeholders and compiling the ideas and suggestions of all,” Dhami added.
The BJP Mumbai chief Ashish Shelar, Lok Sabha member Pratap Chand Sarangi and others were also present on the occasion.
