The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has asked the Pauri police to take strict measures against the accused who is accused of the death of a 34-year-old woman in Srinagar. Kandwal informed that she recently learnt of the incident involving the death of a woman in which her husband is accused for her death in Srinagar. Considering this, she personally engaged with the deceased woman’s family, who shared that their daughter had been married to Rajesh Kumar, a resident of village Odiari in Pauri district since 2012. The family revealed that Rajesh Kumar, staying on rent in Nageshwar Gali, Srinagar, with their daughter and three children, subjected her to physical abuse and financial exploitation due to his alcoholism. Kumar frequently demanded money from the deceased woman Rita for alcohol consumption and resorted to violence when she refused, she added.
She further informed that the deceased parents informed that on the night of June 30 they contacted Kumar on his mobile phone in order to engage in a video call with Sunita. However, she was shocked to witness their daughter lying unconscious in the video call. Upon arriving in Srinagar the following day, on July 1, they were informed of their daughter’s death. They proceeded to accuse Kumar of being responsible for her daughter’s demise, Kandwal added.
The USCW head further added that she had discussed this matter with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Pauri Garhwal over the phone. The SP informed her that an investigation is currently underway, the post-mortem examination of the deceased has been conducted, and they are awaiting the report. Once the report is received, appropriate action will be taken in the event of the murder being confirmed. Considering this, she directed the police to ensure strict measures are enforced against the accused individual in the case of the deceased’s murder, she added.
