Nainital resident Sachindra Bisht’s life may have undergone tragic turns but his grit and talent are inspirational. He lost both his hands due to an illness but did not give up. He started using a fixture on his elbow to wield a brush for painting works of art. His paintings were liked by the people. He has made dozens of paintings so far and his works are also in demand abroad.
Bisht was a filmmaker, graphic designer, video editor and mountaineer. He left the city some years ago and came to live in a locality near Nainital city where he used to teach mountaineering. Everything was going smooth when a sudden illness made him lose both of his hands. He was teaching mountaineering in the Sheetala area in March 2023 when he developed a sudden fever. He was taken to Haldwani where he went into septic shock. He was taken to Delhi where doctors diagnosed him with bacterial infection which had caused gangrene in his body. The doctors had to amputate both of his hands and his toes to save his life. He then returned to Haldwani where he underwent further treatment for two months. He said that his relatives and friends helped him during the treatment which cost about Rs 35 lakh.
He now paints rural landscapes and other themes on canvas. He has also painted the walls of his home artistically.
