The police will identify all social media influencers and hold meetings with them at the district headquarters or police stations levels to encourage them to post content that promotes positivity and public awareness in Uttarakhand. This was stated by the additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order) AP Anshuman in a video conference held on Tuesday to review the functioning of the social media promotion and monitoring cells established in various districts.
The conference emphasised the importance of using social media as a tool for maintaining law and order and raising public awareness while also emphasising the need for vigilance against misinformation and misleading content. Several senior officials including officials from Garhwal and Kumaon range, district in-charges and heads of social media cells among other senior police officials joined the meeting. Anshuman said that the social media cells in each district should be made more active, ensuring regular monitoring of posts that could affect law and order. Immediate action must be taken against misleading posts in accordance with the SOP issued by the police headquarters. He said that the works carried out by the social media cells should be regularly supervised by the respective deputy superintendent of police (Operations).
Besides this, the district in-charges should also evaluate the manpower and work of these cells and submit review reports to the respective Range office and the police headquarters, Anshuman said. He issued some directions for the officials during the meeting. He said that immediate rebuttal should be issued against misleading posts that may disrupt law and order. Police should take actions to remove posts that disturb peace and order on social media, including issuing takedown notices. Letters should be sent to the nodal DIG (Crime, Law and Order) designated by the government and actions should be carried out in accordance with the instructions provided in the SOP.
He said that all police personnel must comply with the social media policy issued by the police headquarters. Any violation of this policy by any police personnel will result in departmental action as per regulations, ensuring necessary further action.
