Agniveers to infuse youthful energy in Indian Army: Governor

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the training and capability of Agniveers of the Indian Army is of the highest level. He said that the Agniveers will infuse youthful energy in the army. The governor said this while interacting with a group of ex-servicemen at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday.
He said that the Agnipath scheme is extremely important for nation building and national security, as it not only increases the representation of youth in the armed forces, but also encourages a spirit of healthy competition among them. The governor said that he has interacted with the commanders who train the Agniveers and their passion and training standards are of highest order.
Singh said that the Uttarakhand government has decided to provide reservation for Agniveers in various departments of the State including police and work is being done in this direction. He added that similar efforts to provide reservation to Agniveers are also being made in other States.
The governor added that enthusiasm is clearly visible among the youth for the Agnipath scheme and this will contribute significantly to the security and development of the country.
The ex-servicemen discussed the problems being faced by them in ECHS and CSD facilities in remote areas and other issues with the governor. The governor assured them that appropriate action will be taken on all the suggestions. Singh said that he will hold a meeting with MD, ECHS regarding the problems being faced in ECHS. He said that the ex-servicemen should play their part in the anti-addiction campaign, home stays, promotion of honey production and other areas.
The Soldier Welfare department secretary Dipendra Chaudhary, director brigadier (retd) Amritlal, lieutenant general (retd) Ashwani Kumar, major general (retd) OP Soni and others attended the meeting.
