The Tehri district Panchayat signed a memorandum of understanding with the Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation regarding the operation of a Plastic Waste Material Recovery Facility (MRF). Under this agreement, the SDC Foundation will manage the MRF for plastic waste established in Shivpuri, near Rishikesh.
The aim of this MoU is to improve waste management at the local level and promote environmental protection. The district Panchayat chairwoman Sona Sajwan emphasised that this initiative represents a significant step towards cleanliness and effective waste management in the district. She stated that the SDC Foundation will not only focus on recycling waste but also play a vital role in raising awareness among local residents about waste management practices.
Sajwan assured that the Tehri district Panchayat will support the smooth operation of the centre and its contribution to environmental protection. She expressed optimism that collaborating with the SDC Foundation would help achieve goals related to social awareness, plastic waste segregation and recycling in the Tehri district.
District Panchayat officials said that this MoU represents a new opportunity for the local community in Shivpuri. Nine MRF centres have already been established in Tehri district and the Panchayat is looking forward while signing the MoU for the tenth centre with the SDC Foundation. The Shivpuri MRF centre would enhance waste management effectiveness and SDC foundation experience in community-driven plastic waste management would greatly benefit this initiative, the officials said.
Founder of the SDC Foundation, Anoop Nautiyal said that managing the MRF centre is a significant responsibility and they would approach it with diligence and commitment. Nautiyal added this initiative with the district Panchayat will greatly enhance plastic waste segregation, recycling, and management in Shivpuri and the surrounding areas. This is especially important given the significance of Shivpuri and Rishikesh in the Char Dham pilgrimage, Ganga cleanliness efforts and tourism activities, including rafting.
