Tiger kills second person within 2 days in Ramnagar

Two persons have died in tiger attacks within two days in the jungles of Ramnagar. The body of an old man who had gone to the jungle to collect fodder on the previous day was discovered on Friday morning. Journalist Deep Belwal’s father, 60-year-old Bhuwan Chandra Belwal of Kyari village had gone to the jungle on Thursday morning to collect fodder. His family informed the Forest department when he did not return by the evening. Personnel of the Ramnagar and Terai West forest divisions started searching for the man along with the villagers. Some of his clothes and blood stains were discovered late in the evening. The search operation was called off late at night.

The departmental staff and villagers resumed the search on Friday morning. Belwal’s body was discovered about 15 kilometres deep in the dense jungle. Sub divisional magistrate Rahul Shah, Tehsildar Kuldeep Pande, Ramnagar divisional forest officer Digandh Nayak also reached the area. The post mortem examination was conducted by a team of doctors in the jungle, after which the body was handed over to the family members.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Thursday, a daily wager who had gone to collect firewood in the jungle had been killed by a tiger in Savalde area. His death had caused considerable anger among the local villagers who were demanding that the tiger be shot. Meanwhile, the authorities have stepped up vigilance and have appealed to the villagers to avoid venturing deep into the forest area.
