The Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to promote young leadership in the party at the grassroots level in Uttarakhand. Considering this, the BJP has decided to prioritise young candidates aged between 35 to 45 years old for the selection of Mandal presidents in the party.

According to the BJP’s State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan, the selection process will also take into account geographical and social representation within each assembly constituency. He stated that the selection will be conducted as per the directives of the central leadership, with a focus on ensuring balanced representation from various communities, including women, OBC, SC and ST categories. The party has decided that Mandal presidents from different social backgrounds will be appointed within the same assembly constituency.

The selection will consider eligible Mandal office bearers, district-level office bearers from party wings and those who have previously served in the expansion plan. A person who has held the position of Mandal president for two consecutive terms will not be allowed to take the position for a third time, he said. He further stated that the party leadership has set an age limit of 35 to 45 years for the position. Candidates must be primary and active members of the party and should have held some organisational responsibility in the past or present. They should have an understanding of the party’s ideology and experience in organisational work. Those accused of indiscipline or involvement in activities against the party will not be considered for the selection process.

Chauhan informed that the State leadership has appointed assembly observers who will take inputs from specific office bearers before finalising the Mandal president. These include the local MP, MLA, former MLA, recent assembly candidate, past and present State and district office bearers residing in the Mandal, members of the state executive committee, mayor, municipal council chairperson, town council chairperson, outgoing district panchayat chairperson, block chief and current and former office bearers of national and state party wings. He stated that current Mandal presidents, general secretaries, district-level office bearers of party wings, general secretaries, current power centre coordinators and booth presidents will also be involved in the process.
