CM emphasises regular maintenance of 38th National Games venues

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to pay special attention to the regular maintenance and effective utilisation of the sports infrastructure created during the 38th National Games. This initiative aims to ensure that sports activities in the State continue to gain momentum. He said this during a review meeting of the Sports department held on Monday, which was also attended by Sports minister Rekha Arya. 

The CM emphasised the need to strengthen the State’s sports infrastructure and to encourage youth participation in sports. He instructed that regular sports competitions be organised across the State to ensure the maximum use of these facilities. Additionally, he urged officials to expedite the development of the proposed Sports University in Haldwani and the Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat. Implementing these projects promptly will provide high-level training facilities for the state’s athletes, helping to create a new identity in the sports sector. 

Further, Dhami called for organising large-scale competitions, ranging from the Nyaya Panchayat level to MLA, MP and CM Championship Trophy, to boost enthusiasm and participation among the youth. He also directed the Sports and Youth Welfare department to support young individuals preparing for Agniveer recruitment. 

In preparation for the 39th National Games, he stressed the importance of providing better training and resources for the State’s athletes. He emphasised for timely awards, scholarships and insurance coverage for outstanding performers. CM urged the Sports department to develop sports infrastructure with the involvement of the private sector and corporate entities, expanding access to sports facilities for the general public. He also highlighted the need for appointing experienced coaches to deliver quality training to athletes and to accelerate the establishment of various sports academies in the State. The government’s commitment is to foster a sports culture in the State and to positively channel the youth’s energy, he stated.
