PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has prepared a comprehensive plan under the Border out Post (BOP) scheme and Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) to electrify many areas of strategic importance located on the India- China border.

The managing director (MD) of UPCL, AK Yadav said that the process of issuing tenders for ensuring grid-based electricity supply to a total of 43 outposts of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) located on the India- China border in Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts has been complete. Similarly tenders have been issued to provide electricity to a total of 882 homes located in eight border villages identified under the Vibrant Village Programme. Purapali village in Uttarkashi district and Nawi, Kuti, Gunji, Garbyang, Shila, Baling and Tidang villages in Pithoragarh district have been identified to provide grid connection to a total of 882 homes. Currently, survey work is in progress which includes technical assessment, line route determination, transformer planning and other basic preparations. Despite the adverse weather conditions and limited access in these mountainous areas, UPCL regional teams are working on a war footing on these schemes, he said.

The MD further informed that both these schemes are very important from the point of view of national security and rural empowerment. The availability of electricity in the areas adjacent to the border will now not only increase the efficiency of the ITBP posts, but also the local population will be able to connect with education, health, employment and digital connectivity. Yadav said that UPCL is committed to provide electricity supplies to every citizen of the State.
