The officers and the employees of the Information department of the State will observe ‘ No Vehicle Day’ on Saturdays. A directive in this regard was issued by the director general (DG) Information Banshidhar Tiwari on Friday. He said that the officers and employees of the department should adopt alternatives such as public transport and bicycles for coming to the office on Saturday. Tiwari said that small collective efforts can bring forth big and positive changes. He expressed hope that the initiative will strengthen the national campaign of energy conservation.
The DG further said that by observing’ No Vehicle Day’, the department will be able to set up a positive example before the society. “ This initiative will not only help in saving the fuel but will result in reduction in carbon emissions and ensure environmental conservation,’’ he said.
The ‘ No Vehicle Day’ initiative of the Information department is taken after the appeals made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of the country. The PM has asked people to adopt austerity measures in order to save valuable foreign exchange for purchase of petroleum products and gold. Following the appeal of the PM, the Pushkar Singh Dhami cabinet decided to observe ‘No Vehicle Day’, promote electric vehicles and public transport. The CM and ministers have reduced the number of vehicles in their fleets.
