The Uttarakhand Mahila Congress on Thursday held a demonstration at a petrol pump at Ashley Hall Chowk to protest against inflation and the rising prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and other essential commodities. The protest was led by the senior vice president of the Uttarakhand Mahila Congress Asha Manorama Dobriyal Sharma. The protesters were holding placards.

Sharma stated that rising inflation has made life increasingly difficult for the people. She expressed that the continuous hike in the prices of gas and petroleum products by the government has taken away the basic necessities from everyday life. Sharma said that the government has failed to assess the situation arising from recent global events, such as the emergency and the Iran war.

She criticised the government ministers for merely putting on a show while youth suffer from unemployment and highlighted the alarming rise in crimes against women in Uttarakhand. Sharma pointed out that while the entire opposition is demanding a discussion in both houses of Parliament on the situation in West Asia and its implications for India, the Modi government is stubbornly refusing to allow such a debate, indicating that the government is clearly afraid.

She said that the country’s ever-increasing inflation and the sharp rises in prices for petrol, diesel, CNG, and cooking gas have taken a heavy toll on the common man. She accused the Modi government’s flawed economic policies of directly impacting poor and middle-class families.

Sharam said that the BJP-led central and State governments have failed to control inflation.
