Unemployed nursing graduates resume protest after month-long wait

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Unemployed nursing graduates under the banner of the Nursing Ekta Manch (NEM) resumed their protest on Monday, citing inaction by the government on their long-standing demands.
Notably, the protesters had earlier continued their demonstration for several days at Ekta Vihar over the same demands and even climbed a water tank in Parade Ground. Following this, the Director General (DG) Health had forwarded their demands to the Health secretary after which the protesters had postponed their agitation for a month. However, even after a month has passed since the postponement, no action has been taken. Hence the resumption of their agitation, they said, adding that they had previously suspended the stir on May 13.
They said that the DG Health had sent a proposal regarding the recruitment process to the government and the government had promised a speedy decision. “But nothing has happened so far. We are unhappy and angry, too. If the government continues to ignore us, we will intensify our stir,” said the president of NEM Naval Pundir.
They also made it clear that their stir would continue till the State government comes out with a written decision on the recruitment process.
Notably, the demonstrators’ demands include a transparent recruitment process that prioritises candidates based on seniority after completing their qualifying examinations, along with addressing other issues.
